WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Charges have been upgraded for a woman accused of hitting and killing a pedestrian while she was delivering pizza earlier this month.

Police officials said Brittany Boddiford, 22, of Wilmington was charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of 36-year-old Lacoltus Grady. Boddiford was originally charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle following the accident.

According to Linda Rawley with the Wilmington Police Department, the accident happened May 5 around 6 p.m. in the 600 block of Morningside Drive. Boddiford, a Domino's delivery driver, was returning to the store on Carolina Beach Road after making a delivery. She was driving a Mercury Mountaineer.

Grady was standing next to his parked car on the driver's side when Boddiford reached for her cell phone, drifted left and entered the oncoming lane. She sideswiped Grady's vehicle and hit a moving truck head on, which caused Grady to be thrown over the hood of the moving truck and onto the ground.

EMS performed CPR on Grady and he was taken to NHRMC, where he later died.
