Now that we’ve hit May, school children everywhere are seeing the light! That’s the light that beckons that summer vacation is coming soon. But the change of the calendar is also a chance for us to celebrate the men and women who have helped shape our children’s lives.
Whether you were an A student or not, we all probably have at least one teacher who made a difference in our lives. For me, it was Mrs. Marks, the junior high school librarian.
She taught me organization and order. Everything in her library had a place and everything had to be in its place. Plus, she got me interested in the research section of the library and how to use it. hat opened up the world for me beyond the tiny little town where I grew up.
For me, Mrs. Marks mattered. And this week, the educators at UNC Wilmington are noting other teachers who matter. They’re encouraging people to speak out on social media about those teachers who made a difference in our lives.
So before you jump in the car and hit the road for your summer vacation, take some time to thank those who have made a positive impact on your children’s life or possibly your own.
That’s my turn. Now it’s your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
