WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Business owners prepare for road closures near the entrances of their establishments.

Craig Berner, the owner of “A Taste of Italy,” said he was not aware of the construction.

He, along with other businesses, said they are glad safety is improving on the roads.

One person who works at a store right off College Road said she thinks the construction will add to the mess the street sees.

Berner explained he’s worried people won’t stop by his restaurant during construction.

"When people are lined up in traffic, last thing they want to do is stop right away and make a stop, they want to just keep going,” Berner said. “So it's definitely going to affect our business, in a bad way."

He also explained the restaurant’s catering will have to adjust schedules to make the deliveries on time.

"We may have to get their food out a half hour, an hour early and adjust that. We have to keep that food warm that much longer, until it gets to their destination," Berner stated.

Construction on the roads should last about a week. Crews will be working around the clock to complete the roadwork as quickly as possible.
