WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior first baseman Erin Brown scored the game-winning run on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 15th inning as UNCW celebrated Senior Day by edging Elon, 4-3, in a Colonial Athletic Association series finale at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who have won five of their last six games, upped their record to 27-19 overall and 6-8 in the CAA. Meanwhile, Elon saw its record fall to 25-21 on the season with an 8-7 mark in league play.

Junior outfielder Merritt Wilkinson led the Seahawks' offense by going 5-for-6 to tie the UNCW record for hits in a single game. She recorded a hit in each of her first five at-bats before flying out to center field to open the 14th inning. 

Freshman Hannah Adamczyk and sophomore Kelsey Bryan each added two hits for UNCW, which finished with 13 hits. Bryan also scored two runs while Adamczyk contributed a run batted in.

Freshman Haley Lenderman earned the win in relief after throwing 4.0 shutout innings. She allowed just two hits while upping her record to 5-4.

Senior Kayla Caruso suffered the loss for the Phoenix after allowing one run on nine hits in 9.2 innings. She posted eight strikeouts with five walks as her record dropped to 8-6.

How It Happened: The Seahawks loaded the bases with one out on an Elon fielding error before freshman Kelli Freeman drew a walk to score Brown from third base for the game-winning run.   

Inside the Box Score: The teams combined to leave 29 runners on base … UNCW was 11-for-24 in advancement opportunities … Elon had its lead-off hitter reach base in 5 of 15 innings … Elon's 4-5-6 hitters combined to hit just 2-for-19.   

#SeahawkStats: UNCW closed out its home schedule with a 23-15 mark, setting a school record for home wins in a season … Wilkinson's career-high five hits matched the UNCW single-game mark set by Yen Wilson against Radford on Apr. 5, 1991 … The 15-inning game matched the program record for the longest contest, equaling the 15-inning victory over Columbia on Mar. 18 … It also matches the longest game played in NCAA Division I softball this year, which was also set against Columbia … The 15-inning contest was the longest game in Elon softball history … Brown scored the game-winning run in that contest as well … Sophomore Ashley Best reached base safely for the 12th straight game when she was hit by a pitch in the first inning … Best has also hit safely in five straight contests after recording a single in the 14th inning … Junior Peyton Jordan threw 7.0 scoreless innings in relief on Sunday, extending her scoreless streak to 15.2 innings … The Seahawks improved to 7-0 this year in extra-inning contests … 28 of UNCW's 46 games this year have been decided by two runs or less … The Seahawks' four seniors started in honor of the final home game of their college careers.

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW opens a six-game road trip to end the regular season next Saturday (Apr. 30) with a CAA doubleheader at Drexel starting at 11 a.m. The teams will also play a single game on Sunday, May 1, at 1 p.m.
