Seahawks earn second straight walk-off win, 2-1


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Kelsey Bryan scored on a wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning as UNCW earned its second straight walk-off win with a 2-1 victory over College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association series finale at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who earned their second straight win, upped their record to 24-18 overall and 4-7 in the CAA. Meanwhile, the Cougars dropped to 24-20 on the season with a 4-8 mark in league play.

Bryan paced the Seahawks' eight-hit attack by going 2-for-4 at the plate in addition to scoring the game-winning run.

Sophomore Sarah Davis evened her record to 7-7 in the circle after earning the win in relief for the second day in a row. She allowed one run on two hits after relieving freshman Haley Lenderman to begin the sixth inning.

Freshman outfielder Madison Brown plated the Cougars' lone run when she blasted the first home run of her college career, a solo shot to open the seventh inning.

Junior Samantha Martin took the loss for Charleston, allowing two runs on eight hits while recording seven strikeouts.

How It Happened: Bryan broke a 1-1 tie when she scored on a wild pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning after Martin lost control of a 3-0 pitch to sophomore catcher Ashley Best.  

Inside the Box Score: The Seahawks' top four hitters in the lineup accounted for five of the team's eight hits … Lenderman did not allow a run in 5.0 innings of work … She scattered three hits and recorded a strikeout while lowering her earned run average to 2.18 … Lenderman induced 13 ground ball outs by the Cougars … The Cougars were just 1-for-14 with runners on base and 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position … UNCW was 6-for-16 in advancement opportunities and 5-for-10 in 2-out situations.  

#SeahawkStats: The Seahawks won their first CAA series of the season … They also won back-to-back games for the first time since sweeping a doubleheader over Columbia on Mar. 18 … UNCW improved to 16-2 when scoring first and 9-5 in one-run games … Best has now reached base in eight consecutive games after going 1-for-2 with a walk.
