You now can have your child's car seat checked for proper installation at the Wilmington airport. ILM's Public Safety Office is now a permanent child safety seat check station.
Car seats can be checked at ILM's Public Safety Office Sundays and Mondays, 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. or Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 4 p.m. to midnight.
According to officials, the airport's aircraft firefighters completed intensive training on proper car seat installation.
"Because safety is always one of our primary concerns, we are proud to be an official car seat checking station,” Operations Manger Gary Taylor said. “Lt. Dustin Stream, one of ILM’s senior aircraft rescue fire fighters, has worked very hard to obtain this certification and offer the program as a courtesy to our passengers and community.”
The required training includes a Child Passenger Safety certification class that combines classroom instruction, hands-on practice, and a community car seat event showing parents how to properly use their seat belts and car seats.
The station is a partnership between the NC Department of Insurance, Office of State Fire Marshall, the Governor's Highway Safety Program and Safe Kids NC.
