WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – Cory Gantz went a career-long seven strong innings and Steven Linkous collected a career-high tying four hits as UNCW knocked off William & Mary to complete a Colonial Athletic Association series swept on Sunday at Plumeri Park.
The Seahawks improved to 19-9 overall and 5-2 in the league while the Tribe fell below .500 at 15-16 on the season and 4-4 in the conference.
Gantz (2-0) picked up the win, allowing one run on seven hits and a walk. The righthander tied his career-high with four strikeouts and he rolled a pair of double play balls.
Linkous led the UNCW lineup with those four hits and he scored twice. Brian Mims, Nick Feight and Kennard McDowell added two hits apiece. Gavin Stupienski drove in three runs while Feight knocked in two and connected on his 10th home run of the season.
Charley Gould had two hits for the Tribe, including his fourth homer of the season.
Dan Powers (4-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs over six innings.
Up next: The Seahawks host East Carolina in a 6 p.m. start on Apr. 12.

How it happened: UNCW took control early, scoring single runs in the first three innings. Stupienski drove in the first run with a sac fly and in the second inning, McDowell singled in Robbie Thorburn with two outs. In the third, Feight delivered a solo homer to rightfield to make it 3-0.
Notes: Sunday's game was the 100th in the all-time series and UNCW leads that series, 75-25 … Steven Linkous extended his hitting streak to 10 games with his fifth career four-hit game … Gantz's previous career-long outing was five innings against Iona earlier this season … Nick Feight now has 46 RBI's on the season, matching Luke Dunlap's team-leading total last season … The conference series sweep was the second for UNCW this season.
