UNCW is leading a community-wide drive to collect hygiene products for the homeless in Wilmington.
Stephanie Ganser, the Assistant Dean of Students, said most of the area’s homeless are veterans.
The school is working with other veteran aid groups to collect the donations. Their goal is to create 150 bags full of personal items.
"We are doing great, one of the offices on campus donated over 14 boxes of items which is really generous,” Ganser said with a smile.
She pointed out boxes filled to the brim with products like brushes, bath gel, shampoo and razors.
She said the students were eager to help out.
“It's just one small step that we can do, and we can do so much more as a university, but this is something we're really excited about,” Ganser said. “It's just really something that we look forward to continuing in the future, supporting our homeless and our veterans.”
Drop off donations at the Office of the Dean of Students or the Military Resource Lounge. The donation drive continues through the beginning of May.
