Oak Island town manager fired

OAK ISLAND, NC (WECT) - Oak Island Town Council voted in a special meeting Wednesday night to fire town manager Tim Holloman, according to Mayor Cin Brochure.

The council vote was 4-1, with Mayor Pro Tem Jim Medlin voting no. Brochure says no public reason was given for Holloman's dismissal after a closed session.

Holloman joined Oak Island last year after working five years with the town of Topsail Beach, where he saw completion of a $10 million beach nourishment project and completed a $3.5 million water infrastructure project.

Holloman was making $107,625 after a 2.5% pay increase in October. He will receive six months severance, according to his contract, because his termination came within six months of an election. That will work out to more than $53,000.

Town Clerk Lisa Stites will serve as interim town manager while Oak Island searches for a new leader.
