WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Abbi Simpson is a young girl with a big heart. Since the day of a fire in Supply, that killed 16-month-old Violet Rose Emmino,  11-year-old Abbi hasn't stopped thinking about her.

With the help of her mother Elizabeth,  Abbi is collecting gently used items for Violet's family.

"Please donate, going through clothes utensils, pots or pans," Abbi explained. "Anything that can get this family through their tough time."

Seeing Baby Violet reminds Abbi of her own baby pictures, and she and her mother say it's in their families nature to help anyone in need.

"I feel kind of like an index card, a roller index, where if you see somebody, you're always willing to help them if you can," said Elizabeth, Abbi's mother.

That is what they have been doing for a week, asking friends and family, calling local stores and organizations, hoping to gather as much as they can for the family.

The Simpsons have loaded up their Jeep with suitcases and boxes, not sure where to take the donations, until today.

WECT spoke with the family advocate, and they are now arranging a time to take the donations to a storage unit will be opened for Violet's family.
