COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The Columbus County Sheriff's Office says a body found Saturday in Tabor City has been identified as a woman who was recently reported missing.
The sheriff's office says the case has now become a criminal investigation.
Felicia Moore Porter was last seen Friday around Fowler's Supermarket at 6:30 in the morning. Saturday afternoon, investigators discovered the body of a woman in a wooded area near Porter's residence. Authorities are not releasing any details pertaining to the cause of death.
"Ensuring the safety and security of Columbus County is our mission," Sheriff Lewis Hatcher stated in a news release. "I encourage the Tabor City community to carry on with their normal activities. There is no reason to fear for your safety."
The sheriff's office and State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the case.
