Seahawks finish weekend with a 10-3 win


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman third baseman Hannah Adamczyk posted two hits and drove in two runs as UNCW closed out play at the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational with a 10-3 victory over Presbyterian at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon. 

The Seahawks improved to 14-9 on the season with the victory while Presbyterian dropped to 12-10 after being swept in a doubleheader on Sunday. The Blue Hose lost to UNCG by a 1-0 count in the first game. 

Adamczyk was one of three UNCW player to record two hits in the victory after earning a pair of doubles. Junior outfielder Merritt Wilkinson added two hits with a run scored and an RBI while senior outfielder Darian Roberts went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. 
Junior Peyton Jordan earned the win in the circle after allowing three runs on four hits. While improving her record to 6-2 on the season, Jordan also recorded five strikeouts with two walks. 

Junior Katie Brown took the loss for Presbyterian after allowing four runs on two hits without recording an hit in the first inning. She dropped to 6-4 on the season. 

How It Happened: The Seahawks erupted for four runs on three hits in the opening inning to build a 4-0 lead they did not relinquish. Adamczyk opened the scoring with a two-run double to right center before upping the advantage to 3-0 by scoring on an illegal pitch.    

Inside the Box Score: The Seahawks were 6-for-16 with runners in scoring position … UNCW was also 8-for-19 in advancement opportunities … Jordan and sophomore Sarah Davis combined to limit Presbyterian to just 5-for-24 at the plate.    

#SeahawkStats: The Seahawks improved to 38-for-44 in stolen base attempts after being successful on all five attempts against Presbyterian … In three games this weekend, UNCW stole eight bases in nine attempts … Adamczyk posted her seventh multi-hit game of the season, which is tied with freshman Kali Jones for the team lead … The Seahawks scored 10 runs for the third time this season (Feb. 20 vs. Rhode Island, Feb. 28 vs. N.C. Central) … UNCW is now 13-8 on its home field … Jordan is now 3-1 in her last four starts … UNCW improved to 8-1 when scoring a run in the first inning this season. 

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW continues its homestand on Wednesday evening by hosting Bryant in a doubleheader at Boseman Field. The first game is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
