WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
The Cape Fear Housing Coalition (CFHC) and UNCW are seeking help from the community regarding affordable housing in the area.
CFHC and UNCW are asking that residents complete a brief survey.
This is one of the first steps towards identifying solutions. By gathering information from community residents regarding their perceptions, community leaders get a complete picture when making decisions and developing the course of action.
The survey is being issued as a result of the Mayor's Roundtable on Housing Affordability last year.
Last November, the lack of affordable housing to rent or own in Wilmington was highlighted in a report provided to the city council.
The report found that a majority of Wilmington's renters are paying a disproportionate amount of their income for housing, leaving little for basics such as food and healthcare.
Over 38.6 percent of homeowners and 54.2 percent of renters are cost-burdened within the city of Wilmington, according to the report.
