Winners selected for Azalea Festival art contest

NEW HANOVER/PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

The winners were recently announced for the N.C. Azalea Festival Children's Art Contest.

Winners were selected from almost 900 entries from 26 public, private, charter, and home elementary and middle schools as well as an afternoon program in New Hanover and Pender counties.

The winners are listed below:

Elementary School Division 

1st place

Elajandra Torres, 4th grade, Carolina Beach Elementary

“Southern Girl”

2nd place

Marjorie Garcia Velasquez,  2nd grade, Mary C. Williams Elementary

“Singing Azalea”

3rd place

Marea Bradley, 4th grade, Carolina Beach Elementary

“All the Belles”

Honorable Mention

Artwork from the top 54 entrants may be viewed in an exhibition at the Hannah Block USO/Community Arts Center Community Gallery from the beginning of the Azalea Festival through Apr. 29. A ribbon cutting will be held on Apr. 1 at 5 p.m. Mayor Saffo and the Cape Fear Garden Club Azalea belles will be in attendance.
