WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Brian Mims drove in six runs on three hits and Steven Linkous tied a school record with four stolen bases as UNCW continued its early season offensive onslaught in a 15-5 win over South Dakota State in the Hughes Bros. Challenge on Friday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks stayed perfect on the young season at 4-0 while the Jackrabbits remained winless while dipping to 0-5.

Mims, a sophomore, belted his first career homer in the first inning to tie the game at two-all and later added a sac fly in the second and a bases-clearing three-run double in the eighth.

Linkous, meanwhile, tied the single game record for UNCW and raised his season total to seven steals with a stolen base in the first and second innings and two more tin the fourth.

Adding three hits for UNCW was sophomore Nick Feight, who knocked in three runs on a double and a two-run homer in the eighth.

Anthony Schneider led the SDSU lineup with two hits while scoring a run and knocking in one with a RBI single in the fifth.

UNCW senior righthander Ryan Foster (2-0) won his second straight start, striking out three and walking one during his six-inning stint. He surrendered four runs, two earned, on six hits.

SDSU's Ryan Froom (0-2) was tagged for eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits and a pair of walks over five innings.

Up next: UNCW takes on Eastern Kentucky, a 12-2 winner over VCU earlier on Friday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

How it happened: UNCW used a five-run second inning and a six-run eighth inning to make it a rout, 15-5. Eight hitters made their way to the plate in the second inning and UNCW batted around the order in the eighth.

Inside the box score: Mims had two of UNCW's five hits with RISP … UNCW scored a runner from third with less than two outs four times on the night … Foster held righthanded hitters to 2-for-16 at the plate … He also held SDSU to 2-for-8 hitting with two outs.

Notes: Gavin Stupienski extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the second inning … He belted his first home run of the season in the seventh inning … The Seahawks have now scored 58 runs through five games this season and reached double digits in all five games … Reliever Austin Easter retired all six batters he faced, including two strikeouts.
