UNCW Softball wins two

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior outfielder Claudia Spinelli recorded four hits and drove in seven runs as UNCW extended its win streak to four straight games with a pair of victories over Lafayette and Rhode Island as part of the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who upped their record to 6-2 on the season, claimed a 4-0 victory over Lafayette in the opener before scoring a season-high 10 runs en route to a 10-3 verdict over Rhode Island.

Spinelli, who went 4-for-5 at the plate in the doubleheader, drove in a career-high six runs against Rhode Island while tying the school record with three doubles in a 3-for-3 performance. She also added an RBI while going 1-for-2 against Lafayette in the shutout victory.

Sophomore Sarah Davis contributed two hits in the win over Lafayette while throwing 2.0 scoreless innings of relief against Rhode Island. Freshmen Hannah Adamczyk, Lacey Fox and Kali Jones also registered two-hit performances in the victory over the Rams.

How It Happened vs. Lafayette: The Seahawks used a three-run fourth inning, including an RBI double by Spinelli, to take a 3-0 lead they did not relinquish. Freshman Haley Lenderman limited Lafayette to just three hits en route to the first shutout win of her college career. She also struck out three batters and did not allow a walk.

How It Happened vs. Rhode Island: After breaking a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a run, the Seahawks erupted for five runs on three hits in the fifth inning to pull away for a 9-3 advantage. Spinelli led the charge in the fifth inning with a three-run double to left center field.

Inside the Box Scores: The Seahawks were 7-for-19 with runners in scoring position against Rhode Island … UNCW held Lafayette to 0-for-7 with runners on base and 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position … Spinelli is the fourth player in school history to record three doubles in a single game … The 10 runs scored by UNCW are the most in a game since an 11-run outburst against Drexel on Apr. 4, 2015 in the second game of a doubleheader … The Seahawks left 10 runners on base in each game … UNCW improved to 14-of-16 in stolen base attempts this year after swiping six bases in six attempts in the two games on Saturday … UNCW has stolen 10 bases in four tournament games this weekend … Both of the Seahawks' shutout wins this year have come against Lafayette.
