Man captured after Brunswick Co. chase

MARCH 24, 2005 -- A mistaken report of a kidnapping sent police in Brunswick County on a chase through Leland, first by car, then by foot.

It began when the sheriff's office and Leland Police learned a woman had been assaulted at the Magnolia Salon and Spa. The victim told them 23-year-old Tremaine Mote took off with the couple's 11-year-old child.

Police followed Mote into the North Brunswick Shopping Center, where he ditched his old Buick by a power substation behind the Food Lion and ran.

Police eventually captured him about a half-a-mile away in a yard off Chappell Loop Road, but he didn't have a child with him.

The child was safely located later.

Mote is being held at the Brunswick County Jail on several domestic violence charges.
