No. 11 Cape Fear CC 77     Lenoir CC 60

The Sea Devils began its final road trip of the regular season on Wednesday with a 77-60 result over Lenoir Community College in women’s basketball action.

No. 11 Cape Fear extended its win streak to 19 straight games dating back to early November, improving to 11-0 in conference and 19-1 overall. Monica Alexander led the way with 24 points.

“We did what we needed too early to put the game away,” said Coach Chris Harris. “Everyone had a chance to play, which is always nice. We look forward to working on a few things this week for the stretch run.”

With four games to go in the regular season, the Sea Devils hold top spot in Region 10 play. Cape Fear gets the week off before returning to the floor at Denmark Tech on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

Men’s basketball

Cape Fear CC 89    USC-Salkehatchie 80

Six different players recorded double figures as Cape Fear Community College grabbed an 89-80 win at USC-Salkehatchie in men’s basketball on Wednesday.

Michael Chambers scored a game-high 16 points and TJ Evans chipped in with 15.

“We played very well in spurts tonight,” said CFCC Coach Ryan Mantlo. “We need to continue to work on the defensive end of the floor and gave up way too many points tonight. We are finding ways to win conference road games and that’s always tough to do.”

Alonzo Tyson also added 12 points in the season-sweep, while Matt Lindsey added 11 points for the Sea Devils, who moved to 7-0 in league play and 22-5 overall.  Cape Fear has won 13 straight games, with a three-game lead atop the Region 10 standings heading into a road game at Denmark Tech on Saturday, Feb. 13.
