WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Former Mayor of Wilmington, Don Betz, met with Azalea Festival officials Wednesday asking them to drop the fee for the Azalea Festival entirely for veterans.

The Azalea Festival President said in a statement that veterans who want to march in the parade will still be charged a fee if the number of vets is more than allowed on festival floats.

In years past, Betz and several veteran groups walk in the North Carolina Azalea Festival's parade and have to pay an entry fee of $25.

This year, however, the fee will be discounted from $25 to $10.
