WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW women’s soccer team opened its spring exhibition schedule by earning a 0-0 draw against the Puerto Rico National Team in an international friendly at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Seahawks, who are coming off a school-record 15-win campaign, outshot Puerto Rico by a 5-2 margin. They had their best scoring chance in the 59th minute when junior defender Lauren Nalevaiko took a shot that sailed just right of the goal from 18 yards.
Junior Carolyn Huddy and freshman Berkley Hall combined to record the shutout for the Seahawks. Huddy made one save in 62 minutes before Hall played the final eight minutes without recording a save.
Karly Gustafson posted two saves in the tie for Puerto Rico, which was playing its second exhibition match in advance of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which takes place Feb. 10-21 in Houston.
