Wilmington, NC – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of defender Ferrety Sousa to the 2016 USL regular season roster.
Sousa is originally from Congo, but grew up in Raleigh, NC. After high school, he was scouted by FCM Aubervilliers CFA in France where he played for two years before returning to Raleigh to play with the U23 Carolina Railhawks. Sousa played with the Railhawks for two seasons and won the National Cup Champions in 2011. After that Sousa made the jump to the NASL and joined the Atlanta Silverbacks. In two full season with the club Sousa has played in 12 games while protecting the back line.
“I am extremely excited about coming to Wilmington,” said Sousa. “Coaches Mark [Briggs] and Matt [Glaeser] both seem like very humble people and are ambitious about turning the club around, and I'm very motivated in helping them do so. Wilmington isn't too far from home so it'll be great to get closer to home and play in front of family, friends and the Wilmington fans.”
“We recognized Ferrety at a combine and his attitude, speed and tenacity impressed me right away,” said Head Coach Mark Briggs. “He will bring some grit and a winning mentality to our defensive line.”
