The sixth annual Feast Down East Regional Conference will be held Feb. 12 at UNCW's Burney Center.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and organizers encourage those who "eat, grow, cook, sell or advocate for local food" to attend.
The conference will include a variety of workshops, including a number that will focus on on farm business skills, agricultural techniques and financial sustainability. Workshops also will include information on where and how to buy local food, and a screening of the film The Last Barn Dance will be held.
As part of the Community Foods Expo, local food organizations will set up displays in the lobby of the Burney Center. The expo also includes a food drive to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina, so attendees are asked to donate non-perishable food.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Samina Raja, a leader in the field of urban and rural planning and development, who will discuss the role of planning and policy in building sustainable food systems and healthy communities.
