WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior forward Colin Bonner became the first player in UNCW men's soccer history to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft when he was chosen by FC Dallas in the third round of the 2016 Major League Soccer SuperDraft early Tuesday.
Bonner, the 45th overall selection, joined Daniel Roberts as the only players in school history selected in the MLS draft. Roberts was selected by the Houston Dynamo in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft.
Bonner, a three-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, earned First-Team NSCAA All-Midwest Region and All-CAA notice after leading the Seahawks in scoring with 20 points, including seven goals and six assists. He tied for third in the CAA in goals and points and received CAA Co-Player of the Week honors after netting three goals in a 5-1 win over North Florida on Sept. 4.
In addition, the First-Team All-State honoree became the first UNCW men's soccer to be awarded First-Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors and was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award. The Fulton, Md., product received the William and Deborah Rudisill Scholarship in Athletics Endowment and was named as the CAA's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
