WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

UNCW Presents and the Association for Campus Entertainment will host a public screening of the documentary Wilmington on Fire and a panel discussion on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. at Kenan Auditorium.

The documentary focuses on the Wilmington Massacre of 1898. According to historians, a heavily-armed white mob attacked members of the black community, either killing them or driving them out of the city.

Panelists for the event include Wilmington on Fire director and producer Christopher Everett, Cape Fear Rising author Philip Gerard, local filmmaker Jacqueline Olive, spoken word artist Khalisa Kelly Rae, social justice consultant Jada Monica Drew, Queen Quet of the Gullah/Geechee Nation and researcher Kent Chatfield.

“UNCW’s Office of the Arts is grateful for the chance to screen Wilmington on Fire at Kenan Auditorium, both for the academic community and the general public,” said Kristen D. Brogdon, director of the Office of the Arts. “I think it’s important for us to help Christopher shed a light on this important moment in Wilmington history.”

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by calling the Kenan Box Office at 910-962-3500 or online at http://www/etix.com.
