North Carolina is the top state for "American Idols," with over three winners and six others to make the top 10.
UNCW graduate Jordan Sasser and his wife, Alex Sasser, tried their luck this week in becoming the last American Idol. The couple's 5-month old daughter, Westlund Joy, stole the show during their television debut with belly laughs and smiles while she watched her parents audition in front of the celebrity judges.
At the auditions in Atlanta back in September of 2015, Alex played the ukulele and sang her version of Bruno Mars' Count on Me, but to the judges, her voice wasn't big enough for the American Idol stage.
Her husband Jordan, however, charmed the judges with a song by Celine Dion and earned his way to Hollywood with a golden ticket.
During a phone interview, Jordan remembered his time at UNCW singing the national anthem at sporting events and participating in the on-campus "Dub Idol" competition.
"It's always been a dream to compete in the real American Idol," said Jordan. "Even though Alex didn't make it through the first round, she is very supportive and we're very both very blessed to share our gifts."
The Sassers hope they will make North Carolina proud.
