WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW's athletic program excelled in the classroom as well as on the field in the fall.
The Seahawks' 314 student-athletes complied a 3.213 cumulative grade point average with 69 percent finishing with a 3.00 or higher. UNCW had 16 student-athletes finish with a 4.00 and 14 of the program's 19 teams compiled at least a 3.00.
"We're extremely proud of the academic accomplishments of our dedicated student-athletes," UNCW Director of Athletics Jimmy Bass said. "These latest figures show that our student-athletes are not only serious about winning championships, they are truly dedicated to their academic pursuits and preparing for the future. We applaud everyone who contributed to an outstanding semester in the classroom."
The Seahawk women's golf team recorded the highest team average with a 3.640 GPA, followed by women's cross country (3.505) and women's soccer (3.464).
"The Student-Athlete Support Services staff appreciates the support of the coaches and faculty and their willingness to challenge our student-athletes to excel academically," said Drew Scales, assistant athletic director for student-athlete support services. "We congratulate all of the teams for their tremendous academic performance during the fall term."
