WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Bernice A. King, the youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., will be the keynote speaker for the annual MLK celebration at UNCW, according to the university.

The event will be held Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. in Kenan Auditorium.

King began her work when she spoke in her mother's place at the United Nations at the age of 17. She's currently the CEO of the MLK Center for Nonviolent Social Change.

Through her work at the King Center, she has continued to educate youth and others about Kingian Nonviolence principles.

The Kingian Nonviolence principles are a philosophy and methodology that provides the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary for people to pursue peaceful strategies for solving personal and community problems.

Tickets are free to the public and will be available at the Kenan Auditorium Box Office starting Monday, Jan. 4, 2016. A maximum of 4 tickets are allowed per individual.
