While Wilmington Hammerheads FC struggled to find results in the 2015 USL season, it appears one of the club’s players caught the eye of MLS partner New York City FC.

The Major League Soccer club announced on Friday that Hammerheads goalkeeper Andre Rawls will join it this month as NYCFC makes the trip to face the Puerto Rico National Team. Kickoff for next Friday’s exhibition is set for 7 p.m. ET at Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium.

Rawls was originally drafted by NYCFC in the third round of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. After training with the club in preseason, he signed with the Hammerheads early in the USL season. The former St. Mary’s standout quickly established himself as Wilmington’s starter, and posted a 1.45 goals-against average in 22 starts for the side in the USL regular season.

While Wilmington struggled, Rawls proved a solid addition as he posted a .736 save percentage, good for fourth in the USL, and three shutouts. He will join NYCFC’s Josh Saunders and Eirik Johansen on the club’s roster looking for the chance to earn a place in MLS.
