UNCW Press Release

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Led by first-team selections senior Meredith Peacock and junior Nicole Lott, UNCW placed five Seahawks on the Colonial Athletic Association volleyball all-conference squads released on Thursday.

“This has been an incredible year for our program and for five players to be recognized by the CAA coaches shows just how hard our entire team has worked this season,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “It also shows that we are a very well balanced team with so many different positions honored. I’m thrilled for these players and our team for fighting all season to reach new heights as a program.”

UNCW’s five honorees was a school record, topping the previous record of three set in 1988 and equaled one year later.

Joining Peacock and Lott were senior Lindsay Hartmann and junior Kristen Powell on the third team and freshman Anna Moss was named to the All-Rookie squad.

Peacock earned first-team honors for the second straight season and all-conference for a third consecutive season. The senior middle hitter ranked second in the conference in blocks with 1.36 blocks per set, fourth in service aces (0.29) and ninth in hitting average (.276). Nationally, Peacock enters the conference tournament ranked 17th in total blocks (129) and 26th in blocks per set. She also ranks fourth among active career leaders in both total and blocks per set. Peacock was named CAA Offensive Player-of-the-Week on Oct. 12. She was also named to the CAA’s All-Academic team.

Lott was a preseason All-CAA honorable mention pick by the league’s coaches and she took it a step further, earning All-CAA first-team honors for the first time in her career. The outside hitter from West Chester, Pa., leads the Seahawks and ranks fourth in the league with a career-high 342 kills (3.56/s) this season. She’s also ranked 10th in hitting average (.271) and third in points per set (4.19). Lott was named CAA Defensive Player-of-the Week on Oct. 26.

A pair of newcomers to the All-CAA honors are Hartmann and Powell. Hartmann won defensive player-of-the-Week honors three times during the season while collecting a career-high 418 digs on the season. Three times this season the Edgewood, Ky., native had five matches with 20+ digs, including a 28-dg performance at Delaware in a three-set sweep. Earlier this season she passed the 1,000 dig mark and is ranked fifth on the UNCW all-time digs list with 1,166.

Powell stepped into the rightside hitter role and thrived in her junior season. The Raleigh, N.C., native set career-highs in kills (259), digs (191) and hitting average (.228). Powell opened her season being named most valuable player of the Big Orange Bash and later earned Co-MVP honors at the UNCW/Courtyard by Marriott Classic. She enters the conference tournament ranked ninth in points per set (3.47) and 10th in kills per set (2.76).

Moss rounds out the award winners after pacing the league in blocks per set (1.43) for the regular season. That average also ranks her 17th nationally. Moss moved into the starting lineup early in the season and paid immediate dividends when she tied the program’s single-match record of 11 blocks against College of Charleston and then matched the record at Hofstra in late October. The Franklinton, N.C., product average 1.37 kills and 2.17 points per set.
