WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman Anna Moss hit .769 on the match for UNCW as the Seahawks celebrated Senior Night with a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) sweep of Colonial Athletic Association foe Elon on Saturday at Hanover Hall.
The Seahawks closed out their regular season home schedule with 9-2 record while improving to 20-6 overall and 11-3 in the CAA. Elon, meanwhile, dropped its third straight outing to fall to 6-22 and 2-12 in the league.
Senior Lindsay Hartmann posted a match-high 14 digs and fellow senior Meredith Peacock had five blocks for UNCW. Victoria Phillips, UNCW’s third senior, finished with eight digs.
Moss led all hitters with a match-high 10 kills in just 13 attacks. Kristen Powell and Maddy Kline both finished with eight kills apiece as UNCW outhit the Phoenix, .277-.088. Alyssa Desjardins and Bella Borgiotti doled out 19 and 15 assists, respectively.
Setter Sydel Curry handed out 27 assists, a match-high, for Elon and Ebony Scott and Michelle Klein had nine kills apiece.
Up next: The Seahawks visit College of Charleston on Nov. 10. First-serve is slated for 7 p.m.
How it happened: Elon (.088) committed 23 hitting errors as UNCW held its 10th opponent of the season below .100 hitting.
Notes: UNCW’s 11th win in conference play is a program record … The Seahawks have now won 20 matches for a third straight season, marking the first time its occurred in program history … UNCW remained in second place in the CAA after James Madison edged Hofstra, 3-1, in Hempstead … The Seahawks improved to 17-11 all-time against the Phoenix and have won the last six straight … Amy Bambenek evened her career-record at 104-104 in seven seasons … UNCW is 38-13 the last two seasons when out blocking its opponent.
