CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Sophomore midfielder Kalvin Kromer gave UNCW a 1-0 lead in the first half, but host Charlotte answered by scoring three times in the second half to earn a 3-1 victory over the Seahawks at Transamerica Field on Tuesday evening.

The loss dropped the Seahawks’ record to 8-7-3 while Charlotte improved to 9-5-2 on the season.

The Seahawks took a one-goal lead into halftime after Kromer scored with 5:46 remaining off passes from junior midfielder Kellen Foster and freshman midfielder Matt Gianfortone.

Just under seven minutes into the second half, senior forward Kyle Parker tied the game when he headed in a pass from Callum Montgomery for his 11th goal of the season.

With 19:53 left, junior midfielder Brandt Bronico gave the 49ers a 2-1 advantage when he converted a penalty kick for his seventh goal of the season. Freshman forward Maclean Holbrook extended the margin to 3-1 in the 75th minute with his second goal of the season. 

Junior goalkeeper Sean Melvin made a season-high eight saves for the Seahawks, who were outshot by a 16-12 margin.

Seahawk Storylines

• The Seahawks and the 49ers met for the first time since the 2011 season. Charlotte leads the all-time series by an 8-5-3 margin.

• UNCW allowed more than one goal for just the fifth time this year.

• Kromer scored his first goal since Sept. 6 when he tallied his first goal of the year in the Seahawks’ 6-2 win over Campbell at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
