UNCW Press Release
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW senior forward Maddie McCormick has been named to the National Team of the Week by website Top Drawer Soccer for the week ending Nov. 1.
McCormick, who earned her second National Team of the Week distinction this season, received the recognition after leading the Seahawks to a 4-0 victory over Delaware in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon.
"The award is a testament to her hard work and the focus of her teammates that is allowing Maddie to get on the board," Coach Paul Cairney said. "Particular notice goes to Katrina Guillou as well. Her work rate and pace is freeing up Maddie as we attack. They are a solid one-two punch together."
In the Seahawks' victory over the Blue Hens on Sunday afternoon, McCormick scored two goals and added an assist as UNCW set a school record with its fourth consecutive shutout. After scoring her first goal in the eighth minute, she earned an assist on the Seahawks' second goal early in the second half.
With 25:18 remaining, the Newark, Del., native tallied her second goal of the contest with a quick shot to give the Seahawks a 3-0 advantage.
The CAA's leading scorer with 14 goals and 33 points, McCormick has scored six goals with three assists in her last three games.
McCormick and the second-seeded Seahawks (14-5-1) face second-seeded William & Mary in the first semifinal on Friday at Hofstra Soccer Stadium at 4:30 p.m.
