Lott earns CAA honors with defensive efforts

News release from UNCW:

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After helping sweep the northeast portion of UNCW's volleyball schedule over the weekend, junior outside hitter Nicole Lott was named the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Week on Monday.

Lott totaled 24 digs and nine blocks as UNCW swept defending conference champion Hofstra before rallying to edge Northeastern in five sets on Sunday in Boston.

"After a thrilling team weekend on the road I'm excited for Nicole to receive this recognition," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "She is a uniquely strong left side blocker and gives it her all on defense which is sometimes a tough combination to find in an outside hitter."

Lott, who leads the Seahawks offensively with 289 kills and ranks among the conference leaders in kills per set, is second on the Seahawks with 214 digs and fourth in total blocks.

Amy Bambenek earned her 100th career win in UNCW's win at Hofstra. Bambenek is just the second coach in the program's history to win 100 matches.

Another milestone achieved last weekend was senior Meredith Peacock collecting her 500th blocks and becoming just the second Seahawk to reach the milestone.

The Seahawks visit conference-leading James Madison on Oct. 30 in a 7 p.m. start.
