WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior forward Josue Henriquez scored on a breakaway early in the second half as No. 14 Old Dominion held off UNCW to earn a 1-0 victory in a non-conference game at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night.
The win elevated the Monarchs' record to 8-2-1 while UNCW stands at 8-4-2 on the season.
Henriquez tallied his team-leading fifth goal of the year in the opening minute of the second half after he took a through pass from senior midfielder Ryan Condotta to score on a breakaway shot past junior goalkeeper Sean Melvin.
The Seahawks outshot the Monarchs by a 7-5 margin and had an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.
• The Seahawks faced their fourth nationally-ranked opponent of the season. UNCW has faced a ranked foe in three of its last five matches.
• Old Dominion leads the all-time series by a 22-7-1 margin.
• UNCW held an opponent to fewer than 10 shots for the sixth this time season.
• Six of the Seahawks' last seven games have been decided by one goal or less, including the last three contests.
