UNCW's McCormick receives CAA award for second time

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW senior Maddie McCormick, who is a forward for the UNCW's Women's Soccer Team, has been selected as a co-recipient of the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Soccer Player of the Week award for the week ending October 18.

Jill Mulholland, a junior midfielder, shared the award with McCormick.

McCormick received her second Player of the Week distinction this season after leading the Seahawks to a pair of CAA victories over conference rivals James Madison and Towson.

"I'm excited for Maddie and our team to receive this recognition," UNCW veteran coach Paul Cairney said. "Maddie made a commitment to get better and she has benefited from making that improvement. She has become one of the top players in our league through hard work and effort.
"But, as with any award, Maddie's success is also a result of the team working together towards one goal as a group."

In the Seahawks' win over Towson on Sunday, McCormick posted the sixth hat trick in school history by scoring three goals while contributing an assist in the first half.

This was the second hat trick of her career, the first being against Towson in 2012

UNCW is tied for first place with Hofstra in the CAA standings and closes out the regular season on Sunday by hosting the College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
