AJ Ricketts

AJ Ricketts joined the WECT team in September 2015, working in sports and news. He is a graduate of the University of Miami, where he doubled majored in broadcast journalism & sport administration. AJ was a student-athlete as well, running cross country/track & field for the Hurricanes.

AJ grew up in Pensacola, FL before heading off to Miami. While at UM, AJ was the Sports Director for WVUM 90.5 FM, where he served as the play-by-play voice for Hurricane Baseball, Men's & Women's Basketball, and Football. Ricketts was also an anchor on UMTV, Miami's student run cable television station, and a writer for The Miami Hurricane, the student newspaper.

While in college, AJ interned for WEAR ABC 3 Pensacola, as well as the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, the Cincinnati Reds AA affiliate. Memorable broadcast moments for him include calling play by play of the NIT Championship in Madison Square Garden, and the College World Series in Omaha, NE.

When not in the newsroom, AJ can be found running on the trails around Wilmington or helping coach cross country, as he trains for the Miami Marathon. He can also usually be found at a Waffle House. If you have any story ideas, you can contact AJ at aricketts@wect.com
