WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Jena Ball introduced her latest book, The Not Perfect Hat Club, Wednesday afternoon with the support of 600 students at Pine Valley Elementary School and a dozen international classes from five different countries.

The elementary school cafeteria was filled to the brim with bright eyes and big smiles, eager to hear the first reading of the brand new book.

Beverly Ladd’s second grade class hosted the event.

They were in charge of introducing the author and welcoming the guests.

Ball even dressed up as one of the characters to get the kids in the spirit.

Though kids can learn a lot from this book, one specific thing stands out to Ball.

“Nobody is perfect, but everybody has something special to share with the world," Ball said smiling. "And everyone is perfectly imperfect. So the only thing that you can be perfect at is being you.”

With the help of Skype, the classes in virtual attendance will continue to take part in a world-wide blogging challenge, NPHCBlogIt.

The six week challenge focuses on the book and uses quotes, activities, and readings to encourage students to explore ideas of perfection, specifically what it means to be “not so perfect.”
