A series of separate fires grew into one large fire that has burned more than 5,000 acres off Highway 26 near Warm Springs.
The Warm Springs Fire Management Office reported Wednesday night that 60 firefighters were working to control the blaze, but there was no containment and more resources were requested.
The fire, about two miles west of Warm Springs, was threatening three separate subdivisions, but no evacuations had been ordered.
One outbuilding had burned by Wednesday evening.
The fire started as a series of seven to nine pop-up fires. Firefighters were investigating the possibility that they started from a vehicle driving on a rim on Highway 26.
The Oregon Department of Transportation closed Highway 26 on the Warm Springs Reservation due to the fire. Eastbound traffic was routed via Highway 216 to Maupin and south on Highway 197 to Highway 97, with the reverse for westbound traffic.
The highway was reopened before midnight Thursday.
