CHAPEL HILL, NC (WNCN) -

A 12-year-old girl who lost her left arm and a portion of her left leg in a shark attack in June is walking again.

According to the Kiersten Yow Support Facebook Page, Kiersten got the “green light to walk.”

“Today was a big day,” her family updated on Facebook. “She did great. It is tough and she needs to rebuild her strength, but she practiced 3 times today! Unfortunately, I never took pics of her walking.”

However, her family did manage to sneak a view photos of Christmas in July at the Children’s Hospital at UNC, where Yow has been recovering. She got to see Santa as wells as two furry friends, Lucky and Justice.

Kiersten Yow was one of two kids attacked by a shark on June 14 in Oak Island. Hunter Treschl, 16, also lost his left arm in an attack.
