Prominent Wilmington native honored with interactive exhibition

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A prominent Wilmington native credited for starting the art program at UNCW is getting some special recognition.

Teacher, philanthropist, advocate and artist Claude Howell is being honored with his very own exhibition called "Claude Live!" at the Cameron Art Museum.

The masterpiece has interactive elements and utilizes dance, music, radio and film.

Cameron Art Museum spokesperson Kim Kelly said several artists came to together to create the exhibit in honor of Howell's 100th birthday.

"Having so many artists here and working together was just totally magical. They, all 26 of them came together at different periods of time, throughout the installation of the exhibition, and just made it all work."

Some of the artists behind the masterpiece will be at the Cameron Art Museum Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. to chat about the piece and answer any questions.

The exhibit is open until July 26.
