Several arrested after sweepstakes raid in Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Several people are facing charges after deputies raided multiple sweepstakes cafes in Bladen County Friday.

Officials said in a news conference they have been working on this case for the past year and a half. The investigation involved three businesses with sweepstakes machines.

Major Larry Guyton of the Baden County Sheriff's Office confirmed a raid Friday morning at the Aladdin Sweepstakes and Aladdin II in Dublin and The Lucky Spot store outside of Tar Heel.

Major Guyton said deputies arrived around 10 a.m. and exercised search warrants. several sweepstakes machines were seized.

Owners Jeffery and Holly Smith are both facing felony charges in the case. Several employees were also arrested Friday.

Jeffery Smith was arrested last June and charged with two misdemeanor counts of operating video gaming machines at Gold Rush Internet Cafe in Whiteville.
