CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - More changes will be coming to visitors at Carolina Beach.
Starting this year, campers are required to sign up for a space at Freeman Park online, prior to pitching their tents.
This week town leaders approved a $50 fine for those found camping this summer without a permit.
Town Manager Michael Cramer said the fine will help them reinforce the importance of having your camping permit.
"That action really is trying to get people more in tune with the fact that things have changed, and that you do have to have a reservation to camp there," he explained. "You can't just go squat anywhere that you want."
Cramer said this change is necessary to keep the number of campers down, so they can increase their safety for all their beach goers.
"That's really what we are trying to do with all these changes is make a quality, family friendly type environment out on Freeman Park where everything can go well, and people can have a good time and it's more constrained," Cramer said.
