WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNC Wilmington got the green light to start a Master of Fine Arts in Filmmaking degree during a meeting of the UNC Board of Governors Friday.
The three-year program will include instruction in cinematography, screenwriting, editing, sound design, producing and directing.
Faculty and graduate program administrators from six UNC campuses reviewed the proposal and said the program's location and curriculum should make it attractive to potential applicants.
While several of the reviewers noted the elimination of the state's film tax credit and increasing competitiveness with areas like Atlanta, UNCW responded that "student demand has remained high despite repeated fluctuation in the state and regional feature film and television industry."
A university spokeswoman said the program's start date hasn't been determined.
