WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior guard Kelva Atkins (Granville Central H.S./Stem, N.C.) of UNCW has been named as a first team selection on the 2014-15 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association University Division All-State Women's Basketball team, it has been announced by NCCSIA officials.
It marks the second consecutive year Atkins has earned a spot on the All-State Team after receiving second team recognition as a junior.
A first team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection for Coach Adell Harris, Atkins was the third-leading scorer in the CAA with a 17.0 average. She also led the Seahawks with 106 assists and 56 steals while contributing 146 rebounds.
Atkins, who was one of two players to start all 30 games this season, scored in double figures in 23 of the Seahawks' 30 games, including eight games with 20 or more points. She tallied a career-high 40 points in an 80-70 victory over Charleston Southern on Dec. 20, which matched the UNCW single-game scoring record and set a Trask Coliseum single-game record. Atkins also tallied 37 points in a loss at Florida Atlantic and contributed 30 points in a Feb. 15 victory over Northeastern.
The fifth-leading scorer in school history, Atkins scored 1,329 points in her three-year career. She also finished her career ranked sixth on the Seahawks' career list with 289 assists. She also set the UNCW single-season record as a senior by making 131 free throws.
Led by Atkins, the Seahawks finished with a 14-16 record, including a 10-8 mark in conference play, and reached the quarterfinals of the CAA Championship.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men' s and women's soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.
