With his head down, Nash Hale walked into the police department in Downtown Wilmington Monday. Prosecutors charged the 22-year-old with second-degree murder and a misdemeanor charge of aggressive driving, before officers took him to jail.
Early New Year's morning officers say Hale ran a flashing red light at the intersection of Shipyard and Independence blvds. and crashed into Deputy George Clemens. Police say Hale was drunk.
Deputy Clemens was buried Saturday. He is survived by his wife, three children and two grandchildren.
Hale will face a judge for the first time on these charges Tuesday. He is also facing charges of driving under the influence.
