 UNCW Press Release:

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Steven Linkous and Zach Shields had three hits apiece as UNCW overcame an early deficit for a 7-3 win over visiting Toledo on Tuesday in a non-conference game at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks raised their record to 10-4 on the season and 10-1 at Brooks Field. The Rockets, meanwhile, fell to 4-11 on the young season.

Freshman reliever Austin Magestro (2-1) picked up the win with four innings of shutout, two-hit relief.

Steven Duby (0-1) suffered the loss for UT, allowing three runs on three walks and a pair of hits in 2.1 innings.

Linkous scored three runs and stole two bases while Shields collected three runs batted in and stole a base. Robbie Thorburn added a pair of hits for the Seahawks while Luke Dunlap came off the bench with a pair of hits and RBI's.

Tyler Baar held game-high honors for Toledo with three hits as the Rockets out-hit the Seahawks, 12-10. Ryan Callahan and Dalton Bollinger each had two hits.

Up next: The Seahawks take on visiting UNCG at 4 p.m. on Friday in the first of a two-game series that continues on Saturday, also at 4 p.m.

How it happened: After tying the game at three-all with two runs in the fifth, UNCW sent nine batters to the plate in the sixth and scored four runs. A walk to Linkous loaded the bases for Shields, who followed with a triple to clear the bases and give UNCW its first lead of the game, 6-3.

Inside the box score: UNCW landed its leadoff hitter on base a season-high five times … Shields had three of UNCW's four two-out RBI's on the game … The Seahawk bullpen of Magrestro, Whitman Barnes and Will Shepley combined for five innings of three-hit relief.

Notes: Today was the first matchup between UNCW and Toledo in baseball, but it was UNCW's second win over a Mid-American Conference program (Ball State) … Terence Connelly and Gavin Stupienski extended their on-base streaks to 14 and nine games, respectively … Linkous now has a five-game hitting streak and is hitting .474 (9-for-19) with eight runs scored during that stretch … Magestro's four-inning stint was his second of the season and third longer than three innings … UNCW has outscored its opponents, 21-8, in the fifth inning … UT committed two errors to raise UNCW's opponents total to 42 in 14 games.
