BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Brunswick County authorities arrested a North Brunswick High School student for falsely claiming he was going to commit mass violence on school property.

According to arrest warrants, Triston Bryan Alderton, 16, of Leland wrote down on a piece of paper that he was going to kill everyone at North Brunswick High School, starting with the teachers, then the students and lastly, himself.

According to officials, Alderton left the note in a manner that indicated he wanted school officials to find it, possibly to gain attention. Alderton was arrested and charged with making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property.

Alderton was taken into custody and placed in the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $10,000 bond.

Officials say this incident is unrelated to a shooting incident that occurred near the school earlier this month.

Sheriff John Ingram has assured school officials there is no threat to the safety of the North Brunswick High School campus, students or staff.

"Brunswick County Schools and the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office take these incidents very seriously as the safety of students and staff remain our top priority," a spokesperson from the school said in a news release.
