WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
Authorities in Wilmington pulled over a New Hanover County school bus carrying children Wednesday morning after a 911 caller reported it was weaving.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the caller told 911 operators the bus had run a red light at Oleander and College, and was weaving between lanes as it headed towards 17th Street.
Officials with the WPD and New Hanover County Sheriff's Office were able to catch up and pull the bus over around 7:05 a.m. at the intersection of Stedwick Court and Independence Boulevard.
NHC Schools spokesperson Valita Quattlebaum says the driver was taken off the bus and will be sent for a medical evaluation.
Students waited on the bus as the NHC School Transportation Department sent another driver. The students were then safely taken to Williston.
A spokesperson for the Wilmington Police Department tells us that driver has been cited for careless and reckless driving. The driver has been suspended without pay for ten days, according to Quattlebaum.
