WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

High pressure will provide a pleasant weather pattern of warmer and dry conditions Sunday, Hurricane Maria is projected to pass well east of the Cape Fear Region during the early part of the work week. Expect heavy surf, hazardous boating conditions and high risk for rip currents. The first dose of fall-like air temperature will arrive next weekend as a cold front slides through the region. 

*The National Weather Service has noted a high risk of rip currents for Sunday. Heed warnings from area beaches, if your plans take you to the coast.*

SUNDAY FORECAST DETAILS: Expect sunny to partly sunny skies with daytime highs in the middle 80s. Rain chances will function near zero although winds may be a bit blustery at times. Stay alert at area beaches for rough seas and strong rip current s. Overnight, expect mostly clear or partly cloudy skies with low  temperatures in the 60s. 

EXTENDED FORECAST HIGHLIGHTS: We’ll keep an eye on Maria and its track and impacts as it works its way to the north. Expect heavy surf and rip currents to continue for a majority of the week ahead. Expect mostly to partly sunny skies and low rain chances, around 0-20%, during the week. Also, light to moderate northeast breezes, daily highs mainly in the 80s, and nightly lows in the 60s. A cooler air mass will arrive toward the end of the week and into the weekend bringing seasonable fall-like temperatures.
