WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

As many prepare for a busy travel week, the outlook for the Lower Cape Fear Region is trending milder and wetter. For reference: seasonable highs this time of year are usually in the upper 50s with night time lows in the upper 30s. Stray shower opportunities will present themselves Monday and Tuesday ahead of the next area of low pressure which will arrive midweek. As always, we appreciate you trusting your First Alert Weather team with your holiday and travel forecast needs!

MONDAY AND TUESDAY: Clouds will keep temps in the 40s first thing Monday with a spot shower possible, but likely staying south. High temperatures Monday will be in the 60s and by Tuesday low 70s could mix in. Be wary of patchy fog during this time, some of which could be dense in places. Rain chances both days will be around 10% increasing to around 30-40% Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Low temperatures will hover around a mild 50 degrees amid light westerly breezes.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY: rain chances will peak to a healthy 60% Wednesday and Wednesday night before tapering off Thursday.  Mostly to partly sunny skies will carry Friday through Saturday. Temperatures will range in the warm 50s and 60s during the day and the mid 40s to 5 at night. Rain chances will vary between 10 and 20% by week's end.

CHRISTMAS EVE & CHRISTMAS DAY: Confidence in this forecast will grow as the week progresses. One trend that continues to be prevalent: the odds of a white Christmas in southeastern North Carolina are not looking good. Northerly-based high pressure could create a wedge effect that would keep temperatures parked in the 60s. Rain chances will vary from 20-30% Christmas Eve and Christmas day, respectively.
